After careers in advertising and art teaching, I have pursued my profession
as an artist.
My work over the years has encompassed figurative and abstract ideas, in a
variety of media, including etching. Drawing is the core strength of most of
my work, as seen in a succession of sketchbooks, in life studies,
portraiture, and architectural subjects.
The fascination for the decorative and ornamental in the artifacts of ancient civilisations has inspired most of my abstract works, whilst generally, my particular love of architecture, landscape, seascape and the human figure has encouraged the figurative. The atmospheric seascape around Morecambe, with its fishing boats, has been a strong inspiration for my latest paintings. I have shown work in a number of open exhibitions, including the Royal Watercolour Society, Manchester Academy, Laing Competition, and Stoke Open. Recent solo exhibitions include two, (2005 and 2010), in Lancaster City Museum, (which owns one of my paintings), Brewery Art Centre in Kendal, as well as group exhibitions at galleries in Devon, North Lancashire and Cumbria. My work is also held in private collections in the UK, Europe, America and the Far East.
