BIG NEWS: A new cash prize of £2500 has been added to the first annual LICC competition! The finalists in the exhibition will get to choose the prize recipient. We are also excited to announce that the exhibition will be hosted by Gallery Yujiro with a collateral event at Alma Enterprises Gallery. Castlegate House Gallery The Castlegate Prize winner announcement will take place at noon on 12th September, with doors open to showcase the thirty finalists from that day onward for three weeks. No large scale in-gallery event will occur for obvious reasons, so the announcement will be made by video on social media and the websites. We've started to receive in the finalist's work to enable judging and exhibition. Here we have two which arrived today, the top by Kevin Weaver and the lower by Wayne Fallon; great to see these and the other works in the flesh. The Castlegate Prize, a UK-wide open painting competition to be held every two years , we have three judges; Eileen Cooper (RA, OBE), first female Keeper of the Royal Academy in its history; famous writer and broadcaster Stuart Maconie and John Moores prize winner Martin Greenland. THE FIRST PRIZE WILL BE £10,000. All competition entry fees will go to the wonderful charity YoungMinds, working with young people and their families, raising awareness of mental health issues in the young. The Art Awards were created in 1995 to celebrate and promote the artistic talents of older people. This national, annual competition for amateur artists has since gone from strength to strength, attracting thousands of entries from across the UK, and culminating each year in an exhibition of finalists in London. Art Awards is open to all older people, and EAC works closely with providers of retirement housing, care homes and day centres to encourage the widest possible participation. |
